On June 26th 2020, for the first time since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, an "analogous" club night was held in the Saalbau Nied again.
In the run-up to this, the board gave some thought about how a club night could be made interesting under the current restrictions related to the Corona pandemic. As tournament play as well as practise games are not possible without violating the required distance of one and a half meters, the board came up with alternatives.
In the wake of the coronavirus epidemic in Germany, the operations of our club as well as the leagues of the chess associations are subject to restrictions:
Because of carnival festivities at the Saalbau Nied, our club night on February 21st 2020 has to be cancelled. Activities will continue on February 28th 2020 with the second tournament of our new rapid chess Grand Prix.
On March 6th, press attendant Oliver Uwira welcomed a journalist of Frankfurter Neue Presse for an interview about the topic "chess for everybody". The result was an interesting report about the essence of a chess club, in which, beside Oliver, youth attendant Hendrik Zimmermann and Kurt Gentner also had a voice. The article was published on March 9th by the Frankfurter Neue Presse, but unfortunately is not available online. We have digitalized the printed version, of course.
Editor's note: On the occasion of the coming edition of our club magazine KNS, this obituary is an extended and revised version of the obituary that was originally published on this site in July 2019.
With woe and grief we had to take note of the passing of our long-standing member Peter Staller (*June 3rd 1942 †July 18th 2019).
